These photos are of the attic area inside of the area below the roof and above the ceiling. This space houses the heating and cooling ducts and also was used for access to change the light bulbs that illuminate the large oval over the front of the auditorium. There is not much in this space other than dust, old light bulbs and covers for the bulbs (covers last purchased in 1980 according to the box). But you can clearly see the underside of the roof structure as well as the structural steel which in most spots still has it's original paint on it and is only lightly oxidized. The ceiling is essentially suspended from a series of steel beams as well as many wires and steel rods and braces, that hold the mesh that the plaster was applied to. Most of it is in good solid condition, some has corroded away where the roof has leaked and will need to be replace. All asbestos has been abated from the attic thanks to an Ohio Clean Funds Grant given to the City of Steubenville in 2013.
